Tony Pua’s attack on Anthony Loke for the future of DAP
Tony Pua and Anthony Loke are both rising stars in DAP and both are equally ambitious as both of them feel that they have it in them to step into the shoes of Lim Guan Eng and become the new Secretary-General of the DAP once Guan Eng reaches term limit soon.
As such, their rivalry is keen and competition aggressive. The last major battle was evident during the CEC election last year where each of them issued their own “cai dan’ or “menu’ of voting list for the CEC and each deliberately excluded the other from their own list.
Anthony Loke’s people felt that Tony Pua is getting too arrogant and is throwing his weight around like a a big boss and even his own staff begins to dislike him and so Anthony Loke was able to establish a foothold in Tony’s camp – breeding moles there to inform him of Tony’s strategies and moves and seeking to counter them.
Tony despatched his team of “angels” – Teo Nie Ching, Teresa Kok, Jenice Lee, Hannah Yeoh, Yeo Bee Yin and Kasthuri Patto to mollify and embarked on a charm offensive on the DAP delegates who are dominantly male to some success except for Teresa Kok who was seen as tainted and a “fallen angel”.ony also worked the younger set of DAP delegates and those who are newer in the DAP while Anthony Loke focussed on the older generation and he utilised his father’s leverage and goodwill to some extent.
When the voting began, venomous smses were sent back and forth from one camp to another- vilifying the candidate with all the poison they can concoct. But eventually when the results came out, it was evident that Anthony Loke led Tony Pua in the number of votes: 1202 vs Tony Pua’s 1162.
Anthony Loke increased his position from 11th place to 5 th and Tony Pua went from 13th position to 8th. But the victory was clearly for Anthony Loke and Loke was immediately appointed to the powerful position of National Organising Secretary, taking over from a once-high flying Teresa Kok while Tony retained his post of National Publicity Secretary.
Tony had to lick his wounds and retreated to evaluate what went wrong and vowed to fight another day.
Much earlier in 2011, Anthony Loke had also publicly humiliated Tony Pua by pointedly contradicting Tony Pua’s statement and Loke stated that Pakatan Rakyat will not reduce the number of civil servants if they take over the federal governments and that he does not agree with the stand made by DAP Publicity Chief Tony Pua.
Tony Pua’s remarks about reducing the number of civil servants was in respect of his statement on how to reduce the budget deficit in the Pakatan Rakyat’s alternative budget.
But the latest salvo fired by Tony Pua against Anthony Loke is when Anthony Loke was compelled to reveal that he was the one who instructed Tunku Aziz to try to court and woo the Negri Sembilan Prince Tunku Zain Al-’Abidin Tuanku Muhriz to join the DAP and contest on a DAP ticket as ADUN for one of the constituencies in Negri Sembilan with a view that he will be appointed the Menteri Besar of Negri Sembilan if DAP/PR should win power in the state.
When the news of such overtures became news, the Prince had to release a statement stating that it is unfortunate that private discussions have been made public. Political parties should be able to freely engage any Malaysian citizen to discuss confidential proposals within the boundaries of the law.
Within the DAP and especially via a whispering campaign deftly coordinated by the silent hands and mouths of Tony Pua’s operatives and angels, Anthony Loke is being branded as a failure – for having failed to deliver the goods in courting the Negri prince whereas Tony Pua has taken credit for getting Zairil Khir Johari to join the DAP and as the political secretary of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. Worse still, Loke is also now blamed for this issue now coming out in the open press thus exposing DAP’s political strategy of wanting to emplace their own people, especially Malays as the Menteri Besar of a state. The DAP has learnt a bitter lesson from their Perak misadventure when Nizar for PAS had to be appointed the MB for Perak even though PAS has won less seats than the DAP in Perak. This strategy of the DAP is being pursued for all the Malay states and it is a secret ambition which has now been blown wide open. Anthony Loke is now the fall guy for this – and this has also alerted the PAS and PKR leaders now to be wary of DAP’s ambitions. It was a well-executed strike by Tony Pua at Anthony Loke, thus reducing the credibility and perceived competency of the latter.
The clash between the parties within the Pakatan will become worse n the final rounds of the seat allocation negotiations where DAP will exert their strength and be adamant in their demands thus forcing PAS and PKR to give way.
Anthony Loke’s next big project is to lead the Pakatan Rakyat to win power in Negri Sembilan and form the state government and to do that DAP must deliver at least 11 seats. If PAS and PKR can win a combination of 10, then Anthony Loke will have Negri Sembilan in the bag. So Anthony Loke has been going around campaigning that for the coming GE13, the DAP is already confident of winning their 11 seats (currently they have 10 seats which they won in GE 2008) and it is quite difficult for PAS and PKR to win a combination of 10 seats since currently they only have 5 seats combined (PKR-4 and PAS-1). That is why Anthony Loke is pushing for DAP to contest more seats at the expense of PAS and PKR and he will drive a very hard bargain with the Pakatan partners.
Tony Pua knows about this stance by Anthony and he also knows that Anthony cannot be given more seats to contest under DAP because if by some stroke of luck, the Pakatan won, then Anthony would end up as the hero. So Loke’s project and dreams must fail and Tony will be the one who will influence the seat allocation for Negri Sembilan as well to ensure that Loke does not get his way.
Tony also has good relationships with PKR leaders and he will be leveraging this and “silently” and “covertly” encourage them to stand firm in their negotiations with Loke so as to stifle Loke’s grand plans.
It will get more interesting as we go into the final laps of the time before GE13 as we will see both men revealing their hand and strategy to push ahead – except that one of them is doing it to the detriment of the party.

Tony Pua is actually a mole planted inside DAP by BN, no wonder he is so friendly with Khairy. DAP must beware and remove the thorn within.
It is very dangerous for DAP to have and harbour such selfish politicians like Tony Pua. Anthony Loke should take him out and expose and destroy Tony before he destroys the party whom I have supported for years.
No matter how hard Anthony Loke tries to win Negri Sembilan state for DAP! he is doomed to fail – after his boo-boo with the NS prince? Royals and Malays don’t like to be used and manipulated.ONE up forTony.

Lucky for DAP the prince said no. This royal chap is immature and full of himself. Have you ever heard him speak? I, me, myself. That is what this big head is about. Very insecure because he is the spare tyre to the throne and also because his brother is a handicapped vegetable. But he was very syiok that DAP thought so highly of him as to offer him MB post. This type of fella belong to Umno so that he can suck them dry. He call Umno leeches and has to apologise. Serve his bloody face right.
Anthony approached the wrong guylah, basically another egoistic young man who will become a nightmare for DAP even if they were to win power in NS. The gods are with usand so next time,Anthony should consult Tony Pua before he pulls some silly stunt like this again. We have to think long term, not short term gain which can become a major problem later.
Tony Pua will be the one who ends up as the loser in this battle as he does not have any real grassroot base.
That Tony Pua is now very arrogant and actsy and he always scold his staff and helpers and talk as if he knows everything and won’t accept any suggestions. Worse still, he doesn’t pay his staff on time, always late and don’t care about us. I know because I resigned from working for him. He is a lousy boss and he won’t get my vote thia time in GE13.
Tony Pua’s arrogance is legendary by now, so many of his staff members have left him and many of those who remain are actually in there to sabotage him, acting as moles for his enemies within and without.
Tony Pua nowadays is damned lansi and very sombong, gone are the days when we meet at mamak stalls for teh tarik and he spending time talking to small people. Now he talk very big and act very big but actually he is very small man. No more respect for him and will not vote him in GE13.
